ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD

PROMISE OF THE FATHER

Luke 24:49 “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

RECAP

Week 1:

  • God is a father
  • He’s a Great one
  • He is a father of great promise
  • Who makes promises
  • and made a special one for the Church

Week 2:

  • Glory to Glory - the transformation pathway
  • Beholding - You become what you behold
  • and Winning - winner is part of our identity in Christ!

PURPOSE

Caleb: We’re not in the pursuit of happiness, we’re in the pursuit of purpose
Phil: Psalm 90:12 "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
numbering/planning our days is the process and wisdom is the purpose

In my experience that the majority of people confuse process for purpose.

Same goes for the Holy Spirit, our promise!

ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD

THE TIMES

1 Chronicles 12:32 “And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment."

Luke 19:41-44 "Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

  • We need to understand the times we are in
  • The "Acceptable Year" is clearly a time, but it's not just a time, it's acceptable, its GOOD
  • When we engage in the time/context and culture we are in AKA recognize that God has put us here for THIS time and get busy working, rather than disdaining or trash talking the time we're in, we have positioned ourselves to impact that time

THE FULFILLMENT

Luke 4:1-21 "Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’" Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.  And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”And Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. 15 And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

THE HOLY SPIRIT

  • To save the world, we need the power of God
  • This is available through His Holy Spirit
  • God is RELATIONAL, thus relationship is what His Spirit Desires
  • Relationships grow, they progress

THE BIBLE'S SPIRIT PROGRESSION

John 3:5 "Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.""

John 20:21-23 "So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Luke 24:29 "Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

Acts 2:1 -4 "When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
